Two-Legged Wonder Dog!

This dog was born in 2002. She was born with three legs; two healthy hind legs and one abnormal front leg which needed to be amputated. She of course could not walk when she was born. Even her mother did not want her.

Her first owner also did not think that she could survive and was thinking of putting her to sleep. Shortly after, her present owner Jude Stringfellow met her and wanted to take care of her. She was determined to teach and train this dog to walk by herself. She named her "Faith."

In the beginning, she put Faith on a surf board to let her feel the movements of the water. Later she used peanut butter on a spoon as a lure and to reward her for standing up and jumping around. Even the other dogs at home helped to encourage him to walk. Amazingly, after only 6 months, like a miracle, Faith learned to balance on her 2 hind legs and jumped to move forward. After further training in the snow, she can now walk like a human being. Recently Jude has been busy taking Faith to Veterans Hospitals all over the country where she inspires wounded patients.

Faith loves to walk around now. No matter where she goes, she attracts all the people around him. She is now becoming famous on the international scene. She has appeared in various newspapers and TV shows. There is even one book entitled "With a little faith" being published about her.

Her present owner Jude Stringfellew has given up her teaching job and plans to take her around the world to teach that, "even without a perfect body, one can have a perfect soul."

SR 71 Blackbird

On September 1, 1974 Major James V. Sullivan, 37 (pilot) and Noel F. Widdifield, 33 (reconnaissance systems officer) (photo inset), flashed across the starting line (radar gates in New York) at approximately 80,000 feet and speed in excess of 2,000 miles per hour. Exactly 1 hour 54 minutes and 56.4 seconds later, they had set a new world speed record from New York to London England. The average speed was 1,807 statute mph over the 3,461 statute mile course, slowing to refuel one time from a specially modified KC-135 refueling tanker.

Another historic speed record was set on the return trip to the United States. Capt Harold B. Adams, 31 (pilot), and Major William Machorek, 32 (reconnaissance systems operator), set a speed record from London to Los Angeles. They returned the Blackbird 5,447 statute miles in 3 hours 47 minutes and 39 seconds for an average speed of 1,435 miles per hour. The difference in the two speed records was due to refueling requirements and having to slow over major US cities. Even so a large number of people in Los Angeles reported broken windows due to the sonic boom.

Stunning Ryugyong Hotel

A picture doesn't lie -- the one-hundred-and-five-story Ryugyong Hotel is hideous, dominating the Pyongyang skyline like some twisted North Korean version of Cinderella's castle. Not that you would be able to tell from the official government photos of the North Korean capital -- the hotel is such an eyesore, the Communist regime routinely covers it up, airbrushing it to make it look like it's open -- or Photoshopping or cropping it out of pictures completely.

Even by Communist standards, the 3,000-room hotel is hideously ugly, a series of three gray 328-foot long concrete wings shaped into a steep pyramid. With 75 degree sides that rise to an apex of 1,083 feet, the Hotel of Doom (also known as the Phantom Hotel and the Phantom Pyramid) isn't the just the worst designed building in the world -- it's the worst-built building, too. In 1987, Baikdoosan Architects and Engineers put its first shovel into the ground and more than twenty years later, after North Korea poured more than two percent of its gross domestic product to building this monster, the hotel remains unoccupied, unopened, and unfinished.

Deepest Pool in the World

Nemo 33
Nemo 33 is a recreational diving center in Brussels, Belgium that
is home to the world's deepest swimming pool. The pool itself
consists of a submerged structure with flat platforms at various
depth levels. The pool has two large flat-bottomed areas at depth
levels of 5m (16 ft) and 10m (32 ft), and a large circular pit
descending to a depth of 33m (108 ft). It is filled with 2,500,000
litres of non-chlorinated, highly filtered spring water maintained
at 30°C (86°F) and contains several simulated underwater caves
at the 10m depth level. There are numerous underwater windows
that allow outside visitors to look into the pools at various depths.
The complex was designed by Belgian diving expert John Beernaerts
as a multi-purpose diving instruction, recreational, and film
production facility, and opened in 2004.

Indian Cobra

The Indian cobra's venom contains a powerful post-synaptic neurotoxin. The venom acts on the synaptic gaps of the nerves, thereby paralyzing muscles, and possibly leading to respiratory failure or cardiac arrest. The venom components include enzymes such as hyaluronidase that cause lysis and increase the spread of the venom.^[8] Symptoms of cobra envenomation can begin from 15 minutes to two hours after the bite, and can be fatal in less than an hour.^[9] The Indian Cobra is one of the Big four (most dangerous venomous snakes of India) and a polyvalent serum is available for treating snakebites by these snakes. Despite its fearsome reputation, only 10% of the bites in humans result in death.

Poison Dart Frogs

Poison dart frogs, wear some of the most brilliant and beautiful colors on Earth. Their coloring can be yellow, gold, copper, red, green, blue, or black. Their elaborate designs and hues are deliberately ostentatious to ward off potential predators, a tactic called aposematic coloration.Dendrobatids include some of the most toxic animals on Earth. The two-inch-long (five-centimeter-long) golden poison dart frog has enough venom to kill 10 grown men. Indigenous Emberá people of Colombia have used its powerful venom for centuries to tip their blowgun darts when hunting, hence the genus' common name.

Stone Fish

Its dorsal area is lined with spines that release a venomous toxin. It is the most dangerous of known venomous fish and its venom causes severe pain with possible shock, paralysis, and tissue death depending on the depth of the penetration. This level can be fatal to humans if not given medical attention within a couple of hours.
The pain is said to be so bad that the victims of its sting want the affected limb to be amputated

Inland Taipan

A single bite from the Inland Taipan contains enough venom to kill as many as 100 human adults, or 250,000 mice. The average venom yield of this snake is 44 mg, with a 110-mg being the largest recorded yield. Its venom is 50 times more toxic than that of the Indian Cobra and 650 - 850 times more toxic than that of a Western- or Eastern Diamondback. The Inland Taipan has an extremely neurotoxic venom which can cause death to an adult human in as little as 45 minutes

Box Jellyfish

Their sting is incredibly powerful and extensive stings can be rapidly fatal. The sting produces excruciating pain accompanied by an intense burning sensation, and the venom has multiple effects attacking the nervous system, heart and skin at the same time. While an appreciable amount of venom (about ten feet or three metres of tentacle) needs to be delivered in order to have a fatal effect on an adult human, the potently neurotoxic venom is extremely quick to act. Fatalities have been observed as little as four minutes after envenomation, notably quicker than any snake, insect or spider and prompting its description as the world's deadliest venomous animal. Although an antivenin exists, treating a patient in time can be difficult or impossible.

Broken tentacles remain active until broken down by time and even dried tentacles can be reactivated if wet.

Boy in the bubble bath: Tom Woods, 12, emerges from the clouds of foam after deciding that surfing was not an option
It stretched for 30 miles out into the Pacific in a phenomenon not seen at the beach for more than three decades. Scientists explain that the foam is created by impurities in the ocean, such as salts, chemicals, dead plants, decomposed fish and excretions from seaweed. All are churned up together by powerful currents which cause the water to form bubbles. These bubbles stick to each other as they are carried below the surface by the current towards the shore. As a wave starts to form on the surface, the motion of the water causes the bubbles to swirl upwards and, massed together, they become foam.

The foam 'surfs' towards shore until the wave 'crashes', tossing the foam into the air.

Whitewash: The foam was so thick it came all the way up to the surf club

'It's t he same effect you get when you whip up a milk shake in a blender,' explains a marine expert. 'The more powerful the swirl, the more foam you create on the surface and the lighter it becomes.' In this case, storms off the New South Wales Coast and further north off Queensland had created a huge disturbance in the ocean, hitting a stretch of water where there was a particularly high amount of the substances which form into bubbles. As for 12-year-old beachgoer Tom Woods, who has been surfing since he was two, riding a wave was out of the question. 'Me and my mates just spent the afternoon leaping about in that stuff,' he said.

'It was quite cool to touch and it was really weird. It was like clouds of air - you could hardly feel it.'

The Red Squirrel has had a hard deal in the UK, it's population dropped through the 1970's and has continued to do so ever since. Alongside the fragmentaion of it's natural habitat, the pesky Grey Squirrel holds much of the blame to thier demise.

The extinct species of the millennium, the Dodo is the best known of the extinct animals and is permanently embedded in our popular culture. The Dodo's extinction was directly attributable to human activity- through the introduction of foreign species to the destruction of it's native habitat. A template that we've followed ever since...

Once found plentiful on the American plains, this Bison was hunted almost to extinction in the 19th century. It was reported that up to 100,000 animals were killed each day at the height of the season- the photo below depicting a massive pile of skulls says it all.

A subspecies of the Plains Zebra, the Quagga had striped markings only on the front of the body, fading to a plain brown over the mid-section. It was made extinct in 1883 though hunting for meat, hides and to preserve feed for domesticated stock.

Believed to be the first species to become extinct through global warming, the Golden Toad was only discovered in 1966.

First collected by Darwin himself, this canine is found on Chilo� Island off the coast of Chile. Thought to be down to just 320 individuals, loss of habitat and infection of diseases are their biggest threats.

Found in the foothills of the Himalayas, the Golden Langur has long been considered sacred to the Himalayan people. With a population of about 10,000, it has a declining population that is set to continue. Photo credit: Vinod Panicker.

Your quintessential parrot. Only 120 individuals are left in the wild - indicating the future for the Blue-throated Macaw in it's native habitat is dire.

Believed to be the largest animal that's ever lived, the Blue Whale can grow up to 33 metres in length and 181 metric tonnes in weight. Hunted in the first half of the century, the population reached an all time low in the 1960's plummeting to just 2000 individuals.

Once found in Egypt and Libya the habitat of the Kleinmann's Tortoise has all but been destroyed. Down to around 1,000 individuals, their situation is dire - if the loss of habitat doesn't get them then the illegal pet trade might.

One of the largest remaining land animals in the world, the White Rhino is a critically endangered species. Poached for it's horn to the edge of extinction it's made an excellent recovery from the brink of extinction in recent years.

One of the last remaining species of egg-laying mammals to walk on the earth, the Long-beaked Echidna is a precious example of how diverse life on the planet can be. Native to New Guinea, the species is threatened by hunting and human activities.

Possibly the most intelligent of all the crocodiles, the species has shown a number of unique qualities not seen in other crocs. Dwindling numbers from hunting and restricted habitat have made the Cuban Crocodile vulnerable to extinction.

As seen at your local pet shop. Yes, the humble Golden Hamster is close to extinction in the wild, counting them in the tens rather than the hundreds.

The smaller cousin of the Common Hippopotamus, the Pygmy Hippo's biggest threat is the loss of habitat- leaving less than 3,000 of these little guys in the wild.

Showing remarkable similarities to humans, through expression, emotion, culture and tool use it's easy to see how these creatures are closely related to us. Their numbers continue to dwindle through deforestation, hunting for meat and exposure to war.

One of the more exotic turtles the Loggerhead was intensively hunted for meat, eggs and their fat. Although they are now an internationally protected species they still fall victim to fishing nets, hooks and speedboats.

As the largest feline species in the world the Tiger is at the top of it's game. A century ago there was thought to be over 100,000 individuals, however illegal poaching of their fur, bones and remaining body parts have reduced numbers down to just 2,500 in the wild.

Native to Southeast Asia the Red Panda is classified as endangered due to a fragmentation of its natural habitats as well as being hunted for it's fur - in particular it's bushy tail.

The world's largest land carnivore, threatened by global warming and the destruction of it's natural habitat. Projected numbers predict that the Polar Bear could be extinct within 30 years.

March 22, 2001: NASA image reveals what appears to be a new crack in the Antarctic's icy armour. The massive iceberg-to-be was captured by a NASA satellite that was also tracing hidden continental features that shape the future of the world's largest ice sheets. Landsat 7, a cooperative mission between NASA and the United States Geological Survey completed its second annual continent-wide mapping of Antarctica at that time. With its capability to see features as small as 15 metres across, it provided the most detailed observations then available of the remote continent including many parts which had never been mapped at this resolution before. The "lifecar" stands for (Lightweight Fuel Efficient Car). It draws power from fuel cells that convert Hydrogen and Oxygen into electricity which is then fed into small electric motors. When designing the body and frame, weight reduction was of the highest priority. By reducing the overall weight, less power is needed to move and sustain speed. In its final form, the Lifecar is able to cruise almost effortlessly using a 24Kw system. Most competitors use at least 85Kw.

The lightweight design and highly efficient fuel cell system give the Lifecar a top speed of about 100mph. No official acceleration numbers have been released as of yet. The designers also incorporated regenerative braking and ultra-capacitors into the drive system. As you stop, energy in stored in the capacitators and then released during acceleration to help reduce fuel consumption even farther.
The vehicle cost about £1.9million ($3.77 million) to finish and brought together some of the best minds Europe has to offer. They hope to continue developing more efficient systems for future cars.

Shoe Lacing Style

1. The lace is run straight across the bottom and emerges through both bottom eyelets.

2. The laces then go straight up and are fed into the next set of eyelets up the shoe.

3. The ends are crossed over and are fed under the vertical lace section on the opposite sides of the shoe before going straight up and into the next set of eyelets up the shoe.

4. At the top set of eyelets, the laces can once again cross over and pass under the straight section as shown. This not only looks consistent with the rest of the lacing but also forms a High Lace Lock, which tightens the lacing even more firmly.

1. The lace is run straight across the bottom and emerges through both bottom eyelets.

2. The ends are looped back under the lace where it feeds under the side of the shoe.

3. The ends are then crossed over each other, then they go under and out through the next set of eyelets up the shoe.

4. Steps 2 and 3 are repeated until both ends reach the top eyelets.

1. The lace runs straight across the second set of eyelets from the top of the shoe.

2. Cross the ends over and feed into the fourth set of eyelets, skipping the third set.

3. Continue down the shoe, two sets of eyelets at a time.

1. Start with two pairs of different colour laces, preferably the wide, flat variety (I was lucky to receive two such pairs with my last runners!).

2. With one colour (orange in my example), lace the shoe using either Straight (Fashion) or Straight (Lazy) Lacing.

3. With the other colour (red in my example), start at the bottom of the shoe and weave the lace in and out of the other lace until you reach the top.

4. Fold around the top lace and head back down, weaving out and in until you reach the bottom.

5. Continue across the shoe until you're out of room or out of lace, whichever comes first 6. Tuck all the loose ends of the laces into the shoe.

Bone Chapel - Sedlec Ossuary

Truth is sometimes stranger than fiction, and how about 70 kilometers east the capital of the Czech Republic, Prague, lies a small town called Sedlec. It might have been an ordinary enough town, if not for its extraordinary chaple.The inside of this chaple is decorated with artworks made of real human b0nes. The story begins in 1218, when a certain Abbot Henry made a pilgrimage to the h0ly land and brought back a jar full of soil from cemetery, which he spread over the Chaple. As a result the chaple came to be regarded as more sacred and turned into a popular burial spot.By 1318, more than 30,000 b0dies were buried there and by 1511, it had become necessary to remove the older b0nes to make place for the new ones. These later became the material for the mac@bre creations.In 1870 a local woodcarver was hired by the Duke of Shwartzenberg to decorate the inside of the chaple with the human remains (approximately 40,000 sets of human b0nes). Now it is one of the most extraordinary church in the whole world.... Boney Chaple - isn't it morbidly amazing???

Between the small towns of Fallon and Austin stands a tree on the side of the highway. Much like the gum tree in Ohio, it has become a living, breathing work of collective art - a piece which has an unwritten history and a fluid, unending future. It exists by the sheer will of its anonymous participants and the spirit of conspiracy. I present to you, in all its breathtaking majesty and glory, the Nevada shoe tree.

People amaze and amuse me. It is a wonderment that never ceases. Often times it can be appalling, the brutal and insensitive nature of humanity, but for the most part, I've always found it inspiring. Man is capable of the grandest achievements - philosophically, artistically, and mechincally - and yet, simultaneously, can be reduced to tearful, hysterical laughter by a really good fart joke. It is this duality of the human spirit that moves me; the sacred and the profane, the high-brow and the low-brow, the earnest endeavor and the flight of fancy.There is a tree at the Kings Island amusement park in Ohio. I forget which ride it is, one of the big water rides. The line you have to stand in winds through a forest to the attraction. There are many trees along the path, but one in particular was singled out by the throngs of hot, idle park-goers for a piece of impromptu collective art. I've always called it the gum tree. There, on the right-side of the path stands the small tree, it's trunk almost completely covered in globs of chewing gum of every color imaginable. It's not like base graffiti, an essentially one person show of artistry on a public canvas. Sure, graffiti when un-checked results in a collection of various artists in a localized area, but it's not a collective effort on a singular undertaking. Someone, most likely a group of someones, standing in that line decided to all stick their gum on that tree. Consequentially, over the years, more and more people added more gum to the tree, resulting in the myriad of color that exists today.I discovered a similar phenomena in central Nevada. Trees are rare here in the desert climate. One is generally hard pressed to spot a tree on the stark landscape. U.S. Highway 50 runs laterally through the center of the state, from Ely on its eastern border all the way to Lake Tahoe. It is a beautful drive, with long stretches of open country. Often times you can drive anywhere from 50 to 100 miles between towns with nary a house in site. Between the small towns of Fallon and Austin stands a tree on the side of the highway. Much like the gum tree in Ohio, it has become a living, breathing work of collective art - a piece which has an unwritten history and a fluid, unending future. It exists by the sheer will of its anonymous participants and the spirit of conspiracy. I present to you, in all its breathtaking majesty and glory, the Nevada shoe tree.

While I'm sure no one went barefoot to create this masterpiece, it is arguable that it has required a bit of sacrifice to create and forethought to maintain. Whoever began this must've had some extra shoes and just tossed them into the tree branches. Over the years, people travelling through the area have made their donation to the tree with pairs of unwanted shoes that happened to be in their RV's and trucks.
It is an amazing sight up close. The tree is filled with every type and size shoe imaginable. Children's sneakers and adult's atheletic shoes. Boots of all stripes: workboots, hiking boots, cowboy boots, and even a pair of rubber knee-high "hipwaders". Pumps, sandals, wing-tips, and loafers.
Which is what makes this project so astounding on a level that the gum tree cannot begin to approach. This tree, literally and figuratively, represents every walk of American life. What probably began as a prank or a joke, and is probably still fueled largely by mischeivous adolescents, has blossmed into a beautiful statement which an indivudal artist could never capture. The very essence of the art lies in the fact that it was created in cohort and by collusion to create an unintentional statement.
It is certainly one of the most amazing things I have seen in my great American escapade thus far. For me it captures perfectly that dual nature of humanity, particularly the American human. Sometimes it is easy to feel inconsequential, like one's contribution to life and society is of little import. In a grander scheme of things, this may be true, but in the realm of the trivial interactions of humans, sometimes all it takes to be part of something beautiful and infamous is tossing a pair of shoes into a tree.

But Hercules is very much living flesh and blood - as he proves every time he opens his gigantic mouth to roar. Part lion, part tiger, he is not just a big cat but a huge one, standing 10ft tall on his back legs. Called a liger, in reference to his crossbreed parentage, he is the largest of all the cat species. On a typical day he will devour 20lb of meat, usually beef or chicken, and is capable of eating 100lb at a single setting. At just three years old, Hercules already weighs half a ton.

He is the accidental result of two enormous big cats living close together at the Institute of Greatly Endangered and Rare Species, in Miami, Florida , and already dwarfs both his parents. "Ligers are not something we planned on having," said institute owner Dr Bhagavan Antle. "We have lions and tigers living together in large enclosures and at first we had no idea how well one of the lion boys was getting along with a tiger girl, then loo and behold we had a liger."
50mph runner... Not only that, but he likes to swim, a feat unheard of among water-fearing lions. In the wild it is virtually impossible for lions and tigers to mate. Not only are they enemies likely to kill one another, but most lions are in Africa and most tigers in Asia . But incredible though he is, Hercules is not unique. Ligers have been bred in captivity, deliberately and accidentally, since shortly before World War II.

Today there are believed to be a handful of ligers around the world and a similar number of tigons, the product of a tiger father and lion mother. Tigons are smaller than ligers and take on more physical characteristics of the tiger.

Here's a building that should really get your attention when walking pass it. The Dancing House is considered as one of the more real controversial buildings in Prague. The DH was actually designed by a great architect from California, which only proves that he had done some type of hallucinogen while designing it.

"Robot Building"
The Bank of Asia is a very famous building in Bangkok. It was made way back in 1985, and it's robotic appearance is just a symbol of the modernization of banking. It also has the ability to transform into a mega-robot. So, if Godzilla ever decided to show his green face in the land of Bangkok, they would have to fight!

"Ripley's Building"
If you saw this picture for the first time, you'd probably thought that it was hit by a massive earthquake. But it wasn't. In true fashion of the Ripley Legacy, it was built to reflect the odd 1812 earthquake that measured 8.0 on the rick. The building has now become one of the most photographed in the world because of it.

"The Wilson Hall"
This somewhat modernize building was actually built between 1971 and 1974. It's unique design gives the Wilson Hall a great sense of structure, and a prominent landmark for the skyline. This bizarre house really doesn't have an official name, but it does have a 135 degree angle. So that's what we're going to call it.
